Minimum Requirements

As you will be accessing material and learning online you will need to have access to a computer and the Internet. The following are the minimum computer requirements for all courses:

Hardware Required

  • Either an IBM-compatible PC running Windows 98 or later, (a Pentium class PC with 64MB+ of memory is recommended, Windows XP is preferred), or a Mac computer with OS X.
  • A Modem or other access to the Internet, (minimum 56k modem recommended).

Software

  • Flash Player must be installed on your computer, (see below)
  • Shockwave Player must be installed on your computer, (see below)
  • JavaScript must be enabled on your computer, (see below)
  • One of the following Internet Browsers, (the software you are using to view this page), must be installed on your computer:
    • On a Windows PC - Internet Explorer 6.0 or later or Firefox 1.5 or later
    • On Mac computers - Safari 1.3.1 or later.
  • The software application you are learning. For example, if you are studying Word Processing you will need to have Microsoft Word installed on your computer so that you can practice the exercises within the course using the actual program.

Please note:

If you are learning IELTS courses and you use IE as your main browser, please set the Windows Media Player as your default player. If you use Firefox or other browsers, please install the Quick Time Player and set it as your default player.

The course content is designed to be used with newer versions of Microsoft Windows, (such as Windows XP), and is based on the Microsoft Office 2002 suite of applications. If you have an older version of Windows on your PC, or are using a Mac computer, you will still be able to complete the course content as long as the items below are ticked. If you are using an earlier version of Microsoft Office, some images and interactions within the course content may be different to those on your computer. As a result you may not be able to complete some of the exercises that require functionality only available in Microsoft Office 2002 or later.
