Health and Safety experts 'Working Safe' with e-learning specialists Intuto are offering Occupational Safety & Health training to employers and employees throughout New Zealand.
The aim of this programme is to ensure everyone involved with a workplace understands their responsibilities and how to make their environment safe, workable and legally compliant.
Programme Overview
The Health and Safety Act is very clear in its requirements of both employers and employees in creating and maintaining a safe work environment.
A safe workplace is everyone's responsibility. While the employer must ensure they provide a safe place of work, employees are actually responsible for themselves and the safety of those working around them.
All modules in this programme will help both employees and employers understand what is involved in making their workplace safe, and the responsibilities everyone within the workplace carries.
'Working Safe' Health and Safety modules are designed to cover all OSH compliance issues in an easy to learn, graphically interesting, and interactive way, with document templates to build manuals and registers and self-checking activities to test out employees knowledge and understanding.
Modules
The goal of the three Health and Safety modules is to provide employees with the knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety in employment as well as the skills for implementing Health and Safety procedures in their specific workplace. The modules include:
- Health and Safety for All Employees
- The Safety Officer
- The Safety Representative

'Working Safe', who have over 150 years of collective business experience and over 40 years of collective Health and Safety experience, have developed our Health and Safety programme. If required, a representative from Working Safe can offer onsite consultancy to support your company's specific OSH requirements.
Course Programme Details
Module: - Health and Safety for All Employees
Overview:
The goal of this module is to provide all employees with an understanding of the basic requirements for Health and Safety in the workplace. This module teaches employees what they are responsible for, what their employer is responsible for, and how to work together to create a safe workplace.
At the end of this module employees will:
- have a clear understanding of how the Health and Safety Act affects them
- understand the impact of hazards in the workplace
- be able to clearly identify and assess workplace hazards in an office workplace situation and communicate them to management
- understand the importance and use of the Hazard Register
- understand their responsibilities in training and accident/incident reporting
Qualification/Certification:
Students who successfully complete this module will receive a certificate of completion.

Module: - The Safety Officer
Overview:
Under New Zealand's Health and Safety Act (May 2004 amendment), it is mandatory for organisations under 30 employees in size to appoint a Safety Officer. It is also mandatory for an organisation to have hazard management procedures in place.
At the end of this module employees will be able to:
- complete a sample policy and write a personalised policy statement on health and safety for their workplace
- identify and describe workplace hazards in an office workplace situation
- identify and describe their own workplace hazards and establish hazard management procedures
- create a hazard management plan
- complete a hazard register for OSH purposes
- recognise the importance of and successfully complete the reporting and notification requirements for OSH purposes
Qualification/Certification:
Students who successfully complete this module will receive a certificate of completion.

Module: - The Safety Representative
Overview:
The Health and Safety Representative module details the legal and practical matters concerning the establishment and maintenance of the Safety Representative. Under New Zealand's Health and Safety Act (May 2004 amendment), it is mandatory for organisations of more than 30 employees in size to appoint a Health and Safety Representative.
At the end of this module employees will be able to:
- itemise what actions are needed to fulfill the role of the Safety Rep in their workplace
- list what needs to be addressed in their workplace in light of the various Acts and prioritise each item
- list the items needed to be addressed regarding hazard identification and risk management
- detail the aspects of training and supervision that need to be addressed in their workplace
- describe how Emergency Response Planning procedures can be implemented in their workplace
- itemise all the issues relating to accident reporting and investigation that need to be addressed in their workplace
- recognise and provide solutions to any shortfalls regarding rehabilitation in their workplace
Qualification/Certification:
Students who successfully complete this module will receive a certificate of completion.
